Doomed to be a vegetable

Growing up with the surname Collie, it was inevitable that I’d be called Cauliflower at school.  Imagine my face when I came across this neatly packaged product at Morrison’s this morning.

RAP summer outing

image

Given the terrible weather so far this summer, I wasn’t optimistic about the Ripon Activity Project outing, but I needn’t have worried.  Our members have a great capacity for enjoyment and it takes more than a spot of rain to put them off.  We spent the morning browsing around Darley Mill Centre and didn’t forget to feed the wild ducks on the mill race.

Then we moved on to the Embsay & Bolton Abbey Steam Railway.

We were allowed to eat our packed lunches in the waiting room at Bolton Abbey station and enjoyed a return trip on the train.

A new showcase

The editor of PickUp Yorkshire is looking for stories of up to 450 words and one of mine is in this week’s edition.  Although the paper has a wide circulation within the county, it isn’t yet distributed in Ripon, so when I’d finished my latest stint at the Emmerdale studios I splashed into the city centre to get a copy.  As well as appearing in print, my story is also on the PickUp Yorkshire website.
