05/10/11 - A chance to grill an editor

As a regular reader of the Ripon Gazette, I was pleased to be invited to attend a talk by Jean MacQuarrie, Editor in Chief of the Ackrill Media Group.

Jean took as her theme Local Papers in the Community and received plenty of feedback, good and bad, from members of the City of Ripon & District Forum.  She gave as good as she got and treated an appreciative audience to some valuable insights into the changes she has seen over the years.  One of these was the loss of the stern proof readers who kept Jean on her toes during her time as a junior reporter!  This has inevitably led to many a howler appearing in print, followed by a flood of complaints from eagle eyed readers.
